SafePave

"Engineered for Impact Designed for Confidence "

What is SafePave ?

SafePave™ is an engineered solution developed to overcome the key structural and safety challenges of pedestal-based floating tile systems. By bonding a high-strength reinforcement layer to the underside of each tile or paver, SafePave™ significantly improves load-bearing capacity, impact resistance, and overall safety—while remaining fully compatible with existing installation methods and pedestal systems. With a growing range of products, SafePave™ offers preventative and retrofitting solutions for both new and existing tile installations:

  • SafePave™ Original - designed to treat new and existing tile installations,

  • SafePave™ Stone - designed to support natural stone tiles in new installations

  • SafePave™ Ultimate - designed for new installations and includes wind uplift protection, insulation, vibration absorption and most importantly, allows the use of thinner tiles. - Coming Soon

Tests have shown a tile treated with SafePave™ to be more than 90% stronger than a non-treated tile.

SafePave™ prevents damage to waterproof membranes, HVAC ducting, Power cables, plumbing or anything else under the tile.

A tile or paver can still crack, but SafePave will prevent the tile shattering and causing damage to people or property

SafePave can be added to ANY tile or paver, even natural stone, increasing the options available to you for your project. It increases the strength at the same time as reducing the sound transference through to the substrate.

SafePave reduces these risks by laminating a high strength, anti-vibration, reinforced protective layer to the underside of the paver or tile. This layer is strong enough to support a weight of up to 2.8Kn* even after the tile is broken.

Like toughened glass, tiles used in a raised floor or decking application can shatter or crack with even a small impact in the right place. This leads to the risk of injury from the sharp edges of the tile, or even major injuries from someone falling through.

Manufacturers of 20mm Porcelain recommend additional protection if the paving is to be installed over voids in excess or 100mm. A collapse of a single tile or a section of tile is dangerous under any circumstances. Even if the floor is only raised 100mm above the subfloor, that’s more than enough height to lead to sprained or broken feet, ankles, and knees. When the floor is suspended several feet above the subfloor, a collapse can lead to more severe injuries.

Ultimately, SafePave provides a balance of performance, safety and cost-effectiveness that benefits every project stakeholder and future user of the tiled area.

🛡️ Safety That Holds Together

SafePave™ is a high-performance butyl-adhesive and fibreglass reinforcement layer applied to the underside of tiles. If a tile cracks, SafePave™ keeps it intact, preventing dangerous breakthroughs. Even after fracture, the tile safely supports over 1.8 kN, meeting the AS 1170.1 intent for structural robustness.

📊 Benefit: Eliminates catastrophic tile failure and reduces injury risk on rooftops, podiums, and balconies.

💪 Built Stronger, Built Smarter

Performance Metric Untreated Tile SafePave™ Reinforced

Breaking Load (ISO 10545-4) 4.3 kN 8.0 kN

Modulus of Rupture 13.5 MPa 25 MPa

Residual Load After Crack None ≥1.8 kN (walkable)

Impact Resistance Moderate High

Aging Retention N/A >90% strength retained

🧩 Result: Up to 90% higher flexural strength and complete post-crack safety.

🌦️ Engineered for Real Conditions

  • Waterproof & UV stable: Butyl adhesive resists moisture, heat, and sunlight.

  • Temperature-tolerant: Performs from −20 °C to +70 °C.

  • Protects membranes: No sharp fragments to penetrate or cut the membrane

  • Allows thinner tiles: Achieve 20 mm performance with 10–15 mm tiles. (coming soon)

🌍 Benefit: Long-term strength with lighter, safer, and more sustainable designs.

⚙️ Compliance & Confidence

SafePave™ bridges the testing gap in pedestal flooring by aligning with:

  • ISO 10545‑4 / AS 4459.4 – Flexural Strength

  • ISO 10545‑5 / ASTM C1870 – Impact Resistance

  • AS 1170.1 – Load & Fracture Control Intent

  • EN 12825 – Raised Floor Durability

📐 Benefit: Demonstrated, test-backed compliance that specifiers can trust.

🌟 Why Choose SafePave™

✅ Prevents tile breakthrough
✅ Strengthens and stabilises tiles
✅ Increases impact and load resistance
✅ Enables lighter, safer designs
✅ Protects membranes and under deck services
✅ Reduces breakage, waste, and cost

⚠️ Injury Risk
  • Major hazard: A person stepping on a broken tile may fall through or lose balance.

  • Common injuries:

    • Cuts and abrasions

    • Sprains or fractures

    • Serious falls if the floor is elevated (e.g. rooftop or deck >1m high)

Example: If a tile breaks underfoot on a 1.2m raised deck, someone could fall and suffer back or head trauma or broken bones.

🧰 Damage to Subfloor Systems
  • Raised pedestal systems are often used to allow access to:

    • Waterproof membranes

    • Drainage systems

    • Electrical, HVAC, and plumbing services

    A tile breaking can:

    • Tear or puncture the membrane, leading to water leaks and long-term structural damage

    • Cut electrical or plumbing lines, causing outages or flooding

    • Damage insulation or fireproofing layers

💸 Costly Repairs and Downtime
  • Repairing broken pedestal tiles is more complex than standard tiling:

    • Must lift and remove undamaged tiles nearby

    • Risk of breaking adjacent tiles during the process

    • Reinstallation may require specialized support or adhesive

  • If in commercial areas:

    • Downtime for tenants or business owners

    • Loss of foot traffic, revenue, or legal liability

🧯 Fire Safety and Accessibility Risks
  • In public or commercial buildings, broken tiles:

    • Violate fire safety egress path standards

    • Block access to fire suppression or electrical systems

    • Create trip hazards in designated accessible paths

📉 Legal and Reputational Liability
  • Property owners, builders, or specifiers may be held liable for:

    • Negligence in using under-spec tiles

    • Failure to maintain a safe environment

    • Damages caused to tenants or public users

How do I get SafePave?

Existing tiled decks or raised tile installations.
  • Accredited pedestal tile installers will come and lift the tiles, treat them and reinstall. This process can be done without major disruption, as each tile is lifted individually and immediately reinstalled after treating. (a very quick process) The tile treatment is undertaken in the area that is being treated, it is quiet and makes no mess. No need to close a business.

New Tiles, Option One – On site
  • Tiles can be treated at your worksite (pallet to pallet). You won't believe how affordable it is. In most applications, it is even cheaper than adding a centre pedestal.

New Tiles or pavers, Option Two – Factory treated
  • Have your tiles delivered to our facilities and we will apply the SafePave Structural Reinforcement to the tiles and have them delivered to site.
